Why this site?

If you’re wondering why we have restarted all the activity around the Sheffield Home of Football, it is because we have applied for the organisation to become a registered charity to the Charity Commission for England & Wales in order to achieve our goal of creating a permanent museum and visitor experience dedicated to our amazing footballing history and legacy in Sheffield and to put Sheffield firmly on the world footballing map. Pele once said ‘without Sheffield, there would be no me’. Secondly, we need to fulfil the vision of two amazing people who we lost and who were inspirational in founding this organisation and it’s mission.

Founding secretary, author and historian Martin Westby, who sadly died in 2020 and our Chair, former Lord Mayor and City Councillor Anne Marie Murphy who passed away suddenly last Christmas (2022). You can read Martin’s obituary here https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/people/obituary-martin-westby-writer-2995319 Anne Murphy’s here: https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/people/tributes-pour-in-for-former-sheffield-lord-mayor-anne-murphy-following-death-3966133 They were two remarkable people who had fantastic, energy, drive and ambition for Sheffield and we see it as our duty and desire to bring their vision to fruition.

We now have eight trustees including John Clarke Dr John P Wilson, Jason Dickinson , Phil Martin, John Stocks, Denise Fox (Chair), Nick Partridge BEM and Andy Kershaw We also have refreshed our website and we will be adding material to it in news as we move forward. https://sheffieldhomeoffootball.org/ If you want to contact us privately you can email us to: shefhomeoffootball@gmail.com
