Today Sheffield Home of Football trustees met with with reporter Rory Smith and his partner Mary and their dog Hector. This picture is near football’s ground zero centre spot in B&Q’s car park. Rory is a journalist from the New York Times, based in West Yorkshire and covering, among other things, football. He asked to speak to one or more of us about the Home of Football campaign, which struck him as a fascinating story and a really good chance to write about Sheffield’s history and the importance of identity in cities that I think generally we dismiss too easily as just being part of the “north.”
He’s already spoken to former MP and Minister of Sport and SHOF supporter Richard Caborn, was to do the walking tour that SHOF have set up, ideally with a photographer.
It’s a great opportunity to speak to the largest newspaper in the world about where football really started. We look forward to the article soon.
