A plaque for Gordon Banks…

Thanks to everyone who attended our 11th Sheffield Home of Football Blue Plaque unveiling today for 1966 World Cup Winning Golakeeper Gordon Banks at Jameson’s Cafe & Tea Rooms on Abbeydale Road. We were honoured to be joined by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Safiya Saeed Berberaawii along with members of Gordon’s family son Rob, nephews Steve and Nick, daughters Wendy and Julia and cousins Jane and Richard.

We were also joined by the Right Honourable Lord David Blunkett and Lord Shaffaq Mohammed Leader of the Lib Dems on Sheffield Council. Our friends Tony and Liz Currie also came too. Present too were John Croot Chief Executive of Chesterfield FC and colleagues from BBC News, ITV Calendar and BBC Radio Sheffield and That’s TV along with Yorkshire Post and The Star, Sheffield.

Thanks to Jamesons for a great spread. Our supporter Mark Watterson brought some amazing Gordon’s Banks Memorabilia. Our thanks also go to Mike Michael Firth and Helen Firth from Heron Publications in Dronfield whose research led to us learning that Gordon was born in Arthur Road in Sheffield in 1937 They kindly sponsored this plaque for us. A lovely event and looking forward to seeing many of you tonight for the Dr Alex Jackson talks at the town hall.

Thanks to ITV for permission to use the video.
