Volunteer Steve had a great time visiting all the schools in both Penistone & Thurlstone to deliver copies of our new Illustrated Children’s Football History book. The visits were to Penistone Grammar School (Paul Crook, Principle), Thurlstone Primary School (Kate Brown), Springvale Primary School (Emma Chapman) & St John’s Primary School. A book was also donated to the local library & their sheep. Local resident Frank Lukey supported Sheffield Home of Football by paying for all the books donated today. A massive thanks to him!
If you know your football history you know that Penistone Schools (especially Penistone Grammar School) should be mentioned right up there alongside other educational institutions that made a significant influence towards the development of early association football such as Eton, Harrow & Cambridge University. Some would argue Penistone made an even larger contribution than those and I for one wouldn’t disagree.
