John Wilson gave a talk at the Wise Owls dinner, looking at the timeline of world history and the origins of the modern game of football with Hallam FC. What we found out was astounding, some coincidental but a lot of it unknown. It uncovered facts about Sheffield’s history that had been hid. The elite of Sheffield’s citizens formed the clubs and used them and their position to control the city and in some cases aspects of the world. Some football is in the talk but it’s the characters and Sheffield’s position in Britain is what its mainly about.

Just wanted to say big thanks for your presentation and engaging over 110 club members in a really entertaining way- the marker to me, is always who stays until the end, and asks questions – in your case, I thought we were not going to get you out of the room!!! There was a lot of “mutual love” from our members, about the ethos of your campaign and your group, which is something going forward, I would like to see us develop.
